About Greenspring
GreenSpring is a program of classes and activities for independent learners throughout Connecticut and beyond. Students travel to Middletown, Connecticut, a central and convenient location, to participate in one day of on-site learning and hanging out with friends.
Parents/ Co-op members, offer their time, effort, and expertise to a wide-range of classes, provided tuition-free in the true spirit of our cooperative. Local professionals also offer classes in topics such as science, art, dance, theatre, and more. GreenSpring is a great place to start making friends and learn about home schooling even before children are of typical ‘school’ age. Little ones come to dance and sing. Artists of all ages paint and play and perform. Parents also form lasting friendships and useful networking contacts while teaching, participating in their children’s classes, and in their own classes, such as yoga and more. Our GreenSpring families come together to find resources and opportunities to learn from each other.
Our community had grown rapidly and was divided by age, with students under 13 attending "GreenSpring" now on Tuesdays and a new group formed called "Green Street" on Wednesdays for students 11 and up. Both groups meet at the Green Street Arts Center and sometimes the Buttonwood Tree located in the northern section of downtown Middletown. These buildings provide excellent classroom and performance spaces, as well as convenient access to the Kid City Children’s Museum (which is free to us on our meeting day) the Russell Library, local parks, a small roller rink and myriad downtown restaurants and stores.
Our membership is open to all who home school regardless of educational philosophy, religion, race, or political beliefs. Our culture is welcoming, neutral, and available to those of all lifestyles and beliefs. We are proud of our history thus far: we have maintained high levels of commitment, volunteerism, respect, and enthusiasm. We welcome you to join us!
